These are books we have enjoyed as family read-alouds. As you can see, I live with a lot of fantasy fans. Where I'm not a real fantasy buff, you know these books appeal to a large audience because even Mom looked forward to these! I rate them high for their ability to captivate myself and my kids, and also for using themes that resonate with our values--strong family ties, redemption and repair, courage and selflessness.

I will only recommend items that have genuinely added value to our family. As an Amazon Affiliate, I do receive a small commission when you purchase using my links. Thank you for helping me serve more families like yours.

This is absolutely my favorite read-aloud. I am learning so much about the history of our world right alongside my kids. This is the definition of a "living book" (Charlotte Mason) as it presents facts and figures in story form. It has piqued our curiosity on a number of occasions, taking us down rabbit trails to learn more through other reading, documentaries and museum visits. I can tell we will read these for many years to come, each time taking in new stories more deeply and slowly building our working knowledge of how societies are formed and how freedoms are maintained.
